HK-Drone

Production Date: Prior 2004

The HK-Drones are unmanned aerial weapons systems. Like the T-1s, the HK-Drones were actually designed by CRS (Cyberdyne) under contract of the US Government. The organization produced many (thousands) of the units to market them to various military powers. They were different than advanced drones that the US government had employed in various recent wars as they did not require a human operator on the ground.

At the onset of the conflict, the HK-Drones were the source of most early resistance casualties.

HK-Drone
(Air Support)

Function- Air Support, Scout

Intelligence- HK Drones utilize the same Alpha ILP (Integrated Logic Package) as the T-1, but with more advanced programming and supplemental storage space outside of the CPU for GPS mapping and other navigational assets. This is a testament to how advanced the Alpha CPU actually is as aerial drones before Cyberdyne were extremely expensive, problematic, and required multiple ground operators. US military drones of  the 2000's were plagued by latency issues and could be lost or destroyed by even slight weather.

The HK-Drone has none of these issues and requires no ground assistance in the course of its simple missions. That being said, the artificial intelligence reasons on a level similar to flying insect and has primitive sensors. Deadly as they are, they often confuse the heat signatures of the debris from burning wreckage as life forms. They can be outsmarted in exactly the same ways one outsmarts the T-1 (namely, stop moving and hide behind a stationary heat source).

HK-Drones (being materially cheap and effective) continued to be used throughout the course of the war with only minor updates.

 Combat-
3 modes of operation:

  • direct (directed by Skynet defense computers like soldiers in a war game);
  • automatic (individual units acting automatically to a variety of preprogrammed conditions); and
  • autonomous (single units relinquished to their own control acting independently)

 Concealment- Not applicable.

Construction- 2 meters from wing tip to wing tip, and roughly 1.75 meters from nose to tail. Titanium armor moderately resistance to conventional arms, but not sustained fire power. No resistance to plasma phase weaponry.

Capabilities- VTOL design.  Three swivel mounted turbo fans positioned around its body giving it great maneuverability and speed.  Lacked fusion reactor power, runs on conventional fuels. Limited range. Although lacking in intelligence, anything that can fly and shoot machine guns accurately is highly dangerous.

Weaponry- Armed with conventional arms (machine guns) and low-yield ballistic missiles. No plasma phased weaponry.

Weak Points-

  • The targeting system of the terminator is very primitive and to defeat it all one has to do is remain quiet, still, and mask the heat signature by standing next to a source of heat like an engine, furnace, fire, etc.
  • Fairly stupid
  • May chase burning falling debris from explosions, becoming vulnerable to enemy fire.

Threat Level- high
