T-70 Series
(Autonomous Infantry)
Production Date: Prototype only, prior 2004

The T-70 was a show-piece of the technological innovations of CRS (Cyberdyne), such as accurate bipedal locomotion in robotics (compared to the "slow shuffling" of Honda's Asimo), coordinated use of an AI in an autonomous sentry, and state-of-the-art weapons targeting systems. It was used to impress prospective investors interested in military contracts.  As Skynet was secretly self-aware, these androids were also designed to protect the central hub of super computers that would house Skynet's consciousness.

When Skynet officially came online, it took over the few T-70s that had been manufactured (along with all other autonomous weapons platforms) and used them to guard important installations until Skynet forces (more advanced maintanence androids) could secure manufacturing plants to begin building real Terminators. Though Skynet uploaded its consciousness to the internet, once the atomic war started, the internet would be mostly shut down and the remaining humans would then attempt to isolate and erase Skynet. Consequently, Skynet did need a large hub of mainframes to exist within. That mainframe hub would need to be protected, which was the job of the T-70 early in the war between man and machine.

FUNCTION
: Proof-Of-Concept Prototype, Security, T-600 Software Prototyping

INTELLIGENCE- The T-70 utilizes a working prototype artificial intelligence CPU based on some of the concepts of the Neural Net CPU later seen in Terminator hunter killer models. It is essentially a premium version of the Beta Series ILP of the T-20, but has many additional features that CPU lacks and is at least 50 times as powerful. However, it  is manufactured on a modern day fabrication process and is consequently far less powerful than a real Neural Net Learning Computer. Most of the processing power of the T-70 is directed toward walking, navigation, and targeting for the weapons systems. Problem solving capabilities are roughly equivalent to a lower primate. It is several hundred times as intelligent as the T-1. There were many improvements in the T-70 compared to the T-1. It can carry more far more GPS map sets in its memory, accurately judge geographical topology, can distinguish friendly from unfriendly targets (sometimes), has a functioning artificial nervous system and balance center, and is capable of very precise weapons targeting. The T-70 can also be updated with new missions, but they must be very elementary for it to carry them out.

Although the T-70 can pronounce commands (pre-recorded messages), it has limited communications abilities and has a very limited ability understand language other than a few hundred simple commands. Much of this is beside the point as the T-70 doesn't need to outsmart you, it just needs to shoot you before you shoot it.

COMBAT
3 modes of operation:
  • direct (directed by Skynet defense computers like soldiers in a war game);
  • automatic (individual units acting automatically to a variety of preprogrammed conditions); and
  • autonomous (single units relinquished to their own control acting independently)
Although very primitive, the T-70 was the most powerful hunter killer that Skynet had when it came online and was only used sparingly in key defensive positions. Exterminating humans was carried out by the more plentiful maintanence droids, flying weapons platforms, and T-1s. It was not clearly surpassed until the arrival of the T-600s.

CONCEALMENT- The combat chassis of the T-70 is a crude approximation of the human form for the purpose of transporting it in military airfcraft designed to transport human soldiers. Though it was designed with the idea of being disguised as a human in mind, this was not feasible to implement in the final stages of production. It ended up being roughly 8 feet tall and 4 feet wide. Consequently the T-70 is a fairly hulking and plodding humanoid machine. It cannot be disguised as a person to infiltrate human resistance territory.

WEAPONS- The T-70 carried conventional weapons. Due to having greater physical strength than a human being, it could carry heavy weaponry such as mini guns and high powered rocket lauchers. It was not introduced with plasma weaponry as the technology was not feasible to manufacture at the time.

CONSTRUCTION- The T-70 was constructed of ordinary materials, not a high grade of titanium and certainly not hyperalloy.  That being said, the armor was thick enough to repel damage from most conventional weapons. The armor plating was intended to withstand landmines used by terrorists, so conventional weapons had little effect on it. Many of the elements of the T-70 design, particularly the artificial nervous system and balance center, would carry over to later Terminator models, such as the T-600, which closely resembles it.

CAPABILITIES- The T-70 is capable of navigating any number of combat environments. It has telescoping vision and night vision. The targeting system of the T-70 is highly accurate, but it is not intelligent enough to be a sniper as shooting targets at long distance requires sophisticated analysis of conditions such as wind and other factors that interfere with ballistic trajectory.

WEAK POINTS-
  • Vulnerable to plasma weaponry
  • Slow-moving
  • Not capable of true independent thought
  • Slow reaction time to changing battlefield conditions
  • When knocked over, it takes considerable time to right itself
  • May target other autonomous hunter killers during combat, especially if its optics fog
THREAT LEVEL- medium
